Welcome 2011-2012

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year! I am so thankful to be back at TMIS for one more year! In 6th grade, we've been doing improvisation and the students are having a blast. 5th graders have been giving speeches about their friends as well as learning about theatre vocabulary. We have been busy from the start and there are no signs of slowing down any time soon!

In 6th grade, our next project is our annual
Trash to Treasure!! Trash to Treasure is costume design and construction project where groups create 2 costumes using only recyclable materials. I provide them 1 t-shirt and they provide the rest! The students always love this project as it affords them the opportunity to be extremely creative. That being said, they are responsible for collecting recyclable materials to create their costumes. Please allow your student to save clean materials in a big trash bag, maybe in the garage or other place that is out of the way.
In addition to this, I mentioned to the students that it would be a huge help if they could bring a package of mini-glue stix. I've provided a list of "needs" in my classroom for this project, as well as others, we will be engaging in throughout the year! Thank you so much for your help and support in any way. If you do not feel comfortable sending supplies, please do not feel obligated. If it is easier for you to send a monetary donation in lieu of supplies, I'm happy to purchase needed supplies.
Needs List:

  • glue stix (mini and regular)
  • glue guns
  • kleenex tissues
  • pencils
  • crayons
  • markers
  • large white/manilla construction/sketch paper
  • rolls of foil
Thank you so much in advance for your donation! TMIS Theatre appreciates it more than you know!

6th grade field trip!!!

I am VERY excited to post that my 6th grade theatre students will have the opportunity to see live theatre this year! On Friday, October 15th, we will travel to our feeder high school, Timber Creek High School to watch their fall show, Still Life with Iris. The play has long been one of my favorite plays so I am especially excited to see their version. There are even a few actors who are in the show whom I taught my first year in Keller! This will be a very "full circle" experience for me.
The performance runs 2 hours and afterwards we will participate in a talkback session with the actors as well as go on a backstage tour of the facilities. We will also eat on campus so each student will need to bring a sack lunch that day. If your student needs to get a sack lunch from the cafeteria, please indicate that on the form and return to me by October 1st so I will know what numbers to give our cafeteria staff.
If you have questions about the field trip, please email me: angie.lindbloom@kellerisd.net
I will be sending home a permission form/informational form tomorrow, Friday, September 24th.

Public Service Announcements are ROUGH!

For the past few weeks in 6th grade theatre, we've been working on PSA's...Public Service Announcements. The students have had a blast and today, for the first time, I got to put makeup on the kids for one announcement. As you can see below, shooting a PSA is rough! These boys' PSA is about bullying. While a bit extreme, the makeup looked great on camera!

Puppet Time!

In 5th grade theatre we've been working on our own scenes incorporating sock puppets! The students were asked to write their own scenes utilizing at least one sock puppet as one of the characters. Many of the groups used more than one puppet and some groups had ALL sock puppet actors! Below you will find 2 pictures of their creations:
